Mushroom Foraging Tips: June 2022
These mushroom foraging tips apply to the Cape Town area and other parts of the Western Cape such as George and surrounding areas.
June is prime foraging time for Pine Rings/Saffron Milk Caps (Lactarius deliciosus), especially after some good rains.
With the cooler weather and more saturated, humid forests you can also often find boletes such as the Bay Bolete (Imleria badia), Bovine Bolete (Siullus bovinus), and Red-cracking Bolete (Xerocomellus chrysenteron).
The odd Porcini (Boletus edulis) and Oak Bolete (Boletus aereus) can also be found under the right conditions, however, these are not found as often as they are in spring and autumn.
